Creating with purpose, leading with heart

For Sukhi, Employer Brand is where creativity meets connection. It’s a space to amplify real stories, highlight diverse journeys, and build belonging through the power of storytelling.

“I genuinely love working with people from all walks of life.  Hearing their journeys, where they’ve come from, what they’ve overcome, what keeps them going. Every story I help tell doesn’t just reflect who we are at Checkout, it helps shape who I am, too.”

Storytelling, for Sukhi, is about creating space for people to feel proud of who they are, and safe to be real. Her passion comes from lived experience, because she knows stories can heal, connect, and empower.

“They remind us we’re not alone. That we all carry something. And that there’s beauty and strength in sharing it.”

Faith, family, and finding strength

When Sukhi was diagnosed with cancer, the world didn’t stop - but her perspective shifted forever.

“I didn’t think, ‘why me?’ I thought how do I get through this for my girls? In every moment of fear, they became my courage”

Sukhi has always been someone who saw things through. Her Sikh faith became an anchor, offering courage in the quiet moments and clarity in uncertainty. But her greatest strength came from being a mother.

“They were watching me. I wanted them to see strength, not fear. To know that even in the hardest moments, we keep going, with courage, even if it’s just one step at a time.”

And yet, even the strongest need support. Sukhi discovered that allowing herself to receive help wasn’t weakness, it was wisdom.

“I had to learn that it’s not only okay to ask for help, it’s necessary. And that kind of vulnerability shows real strength.”

Mental health at work and beyond

Looking back, Sukhi recognises how easy it was to lose sight of herself in the rhythm of everyday life. Like many women and mothers, just kept going, kept showing up, often without stopping to check in on herself. It wasn’t intentional, just instinct.

But over time, she realised something powerful: well-being isn’t a side note, it’s the foundation.

“There’s no point in running on empty, because that’s what you’ll end up delivering. You can’t give your best if you don’t feel your best.”

Through motherhood, healing, and personal growth, Sukhi has learned to honour her limits and treat herself with the same care she gives to others.

“You have to be kind to yourself. Make space to rest. To heal. It’s okay to say, ‘I can’t right now.’ It’s okay to reach out. And when you do… you come back so much stronger.”

Her belief in showing up infuses every story she tells and every connection she builds. Because when we prioritise well-being, we unlock something powerful, not just in ourselves, but in one another.

“When we feel seen, safe, and supported, that’s when we do our best work. That’s when we build each other up, and create space for everyone to thrive.”

#NeverGiveUp

For her, it’s not about always pushing through, it’s about trusting the process, and believing a way forward always exists, even if the path isn’t what you expected.

“To me, it means you find a way. Sometimes that way is quiet, sometimes it’s messy - but it’s there. You take one step, then another. And you remember that you’re not alone. Trust matters. Respect matters. And so does asking for help when you need it.”

Words to live by

To the women, mothers, creatives, and teammates around her, Sukhi offers this reminder, it’s one shaped by experience, not theory:

“Please don’t forget about yourself. Yes, progress, performance, and pace all matter, but it's not sustainable if you’re running on empty. Your well-being sets the tone for everything. So be kind to yourself. Make space to pause, to breathe and to heal.”

She knows how easy it is to keep going and how necessary it is to sometimes stop.

“It’s okay to say, ‘I need time.’ It’s okay to say no. And it’s more than okay to ask for help. Don’t let your past define you. Take the lessons, take the growth, and let yourself evolve. Be strong in your own way. Be better for yourself and not just for everyone else.”
