Custom Boards
Last updated: August 26, 2026
Custom Boards helps you build flexible payment performance views on top of Checkout.com's Payment Lifecycle data. You can create charts and tables, compare segments side by side, and save the views that matter most to your business.
Payment Lifecycle dashboards give you guided visibility into each stage of the payment journey, including authentication, authorization, acceptance, capture, refunds, and voids. Custom Boards extends that experience by letting you:
- Create your own charts and tables from the same underlying dataset as Payment Lifecycle
- Compare performance across countries, payment methods, processing types, and other dimensions without repeatedly changing filters
- Combine multiple metrics into one saved view
- Build reusable boards for recurring analysis and reporting
Use Custom Boards when you want more flexibility than a standard dashboard page can provide. Typical use cases include:
- Comparing one segment against another, such as France versus the United Kingdom
- Viewing multiple metrics together in one place
- Creating a recurring business review or custom report
- Saving filtered views for a region, payment method, or business setup
Different stages of the payment lifecycle use different outcome dates. For example, authentication uses the authentication outcome date, while capture and refund use later lifecycle outcomes.
Custom Boards simplifies this for merchants. Instead of asking you to manage those differences yourself, the backend queries the specific outcome date associated with each metric and lifecycle stage. This means merchants can use a single date picker while still accessing the cleanest and most accurate view of their performance data.
You can start in two ways:
- From a Payment Lifecycle dashboard by hovering over a visualization and selecting Open Chart Builder
- Directly from Custom Boards to create a chart from scratch
To create a chart from an existing dashboard view:
- Sign in to the Dashboard.
- Open the relevant Payment Lifecycle dashboard.
- Hover over the visualization you want to explore further.
- Select Open Chart Builder.
- Adjust the metrics, dimensions, timeline, grouping, or filters.
- Save the chart into a board.
To create a chart from scratch:
- Sign in to the Dashboard.
- Open Custom Boards.
- Choose the metrics you want to analyze from the left-hand metric picker.
- Add one or more dimensions to break the data down further.
- Select the display format that best fits the data.
- Apply filters, adjust the timeline, choose the grouping, and save the view to a board.
A board is a collection of saved charts and tables that helps you monitor the metrics that matter most to your business.
To create one:
- Build your first chart or table.
- Save it into a new board.
- Add more charts or tables to build out the view you need.
- Return to the board whenever you want to track those same metrics over time.
Information
A useful approach is to create one board per business question, such as geographic performance, payment method performance, or lifecycle monitoring by stage.
Custom Boards is built on Payment Lifecycle data and gives access to merchant-facing metrics across authentication, acceptance, risk, authorization, capture, refund, and voids.
Examples include:
- Net acceptance rate
- Average payment value
- Authentication performance
- Authorization performance
- Capture and refund performance
- Side-by-side comparisons across segments
You can break down data across a wide range of dimensions, including:
- Geographic scope
- Issuing country
- Bank BIN
- Acquirer country
- Payment method
- Wallet and token
- Local scheme
- Card type
- Processing type, such as card on file
- Authorization PAN type
You can also apply filters to focus on a specific segment and save that view for reuse. Depending on the question you are answering, you can group data by day, week, or month.
When merchants select rates, counts, or amounts, Checkout provides prebuilt display formats based on the structure of the data. Available visualization types include:
- Line chart – Best for tracking how a metric changes over time.
- Bar chart – Best for comparing performance across categories or segments.
- Combo chart – Best for combining different metric types, such as rates alongside counts or amounts, in one view.
- Table view – Best for denser reporting, detailed breakdowns, and side-by-side metric comparison.
Only up to five selections can be displayed as a chart. If a merchant selects more than five metrics or dimensions from the Build section, a visualization no longer applies cleanly and the view becomes better suited to a table.
In those cases, merchants can use the Raw data section below Display format to download a CSV. This makes it possible to export multiple dimensions side by side and build a custom report from aggregated metrics.
The following examples show how you can use Custom Boards:
- Compare authorization performance by country – A merchant can compare authorization performance between France and the United Kingdom without repeatedly changing a single dashboard filter.
- Build a weekly performance report – A merchant can combine multiple metrics, extend the timeline, group by week, and save the result as a table for repeat use.
- Monitor a specific segment over time – A merchant can apply a filter such as issuing country, save that view, and rely on the board to update as the underlying data changes.
To get the most from Custom Boards:
- Start with one business question per chart.
- Use boards to organize related views.
- Use charts for focused comparisons.
- Use tables or raw data export for broader multi-metric reporting.
- Rely on the single date picker in Custom Boards while the backend handles the correct outcome date for each metric and stage.
