Welcome Remo Giovanni Abbondandolo, VP of Business Development MENA

In his role, Remo will help strategically grow Checkout.com’s e-commerce business and client base. Specifically, his strong knowledge and expertise of the travel sector will further cement Checkout.com’s position as a leading provider of payment services to online travel agencies.

Remo brings with him a wealth of e-commerce experience and a strong entrepreneurial spirit that resonates with the core values of Checkout.com. He joins us from Travelstart, Africa’s largest online travel agency, where as General Manager he oversaw the company’s expansion into the Middle East. Prior to this, Remo was also on the founding team of Africa Internet Accelerator (a Naspers’ investment), which notably launched three of the fastest growing e-commerce businesses in South Africa.

Remo’s appointment demonstrates our commitment and intent to further invest in and hire the best talent in the Middle East. In the past six months, we’ve grown our business across the globe and opened offices in Boston, Berlin and San Francisco - but MENA is still a hugely important area for us.

E-commerce is thriving in the Middle East, but there still remain many friction points that make is difficult for foreign companies to process online payments. We’re excited to have Remo on board as we continue to address these pain points.
