Visa response code reclassification

Visa response code reclassification

If an issuer deletes a token due to a closed account, fraud, or lost card, a transaction attempt will result in a decline and retries will never be approved. Until recently, issuers would return a generic 20005 - Declined - Do not honor response in this scenario, causing a poor customer experience and the potential for reattempts to trigger system integrity fees.

To provide clear guidance that the credential is permanently invalid, prevent unnecessary retries, and improve overall transaction performance, Visa has repurposed the 30046 - Closed Account response code for this scenario.

If you receive this response, you should avoid making any further retries for the token, as these will never be approved.
