Reminder – CAVV usage and storage for 3D Secure
The CAVV is a cryptographic value generated during 3D Secure authentication and returned in our API responses when a 3D Secure authentication is approved.
Visa is reminding merchants that scheme rules do not allow the reuse or storing of the CAVV. It’s also crucial to be aware that the CAVV is only valid for 90 days from the date of authentication.
If you need to generate a new CAVV for delayed authorizations, split shipments, or other use cases, you can use 3D requester-initiated authentications (3RI) to submit data and authenticate a card-not-present (CNP) transaction.
