Purpose of Payment field must be populated for OCT and AFT

Nov 8, 2023

From April 12, 2024, Visa will decline cross-border Original Credit Transactions (OCTs) and Account Funding Transactions (AFTs) sent to and received in Argentina, Bangladesh, Chile, Colombia, Egypt, and India if the Purpose of Payment code field is not populated.

What is the Purpose of Payment code field?

The Purpose of Payment code, also known as the PoP code, is a 12-character free-text field used to classify and report the nature and purpose of transactions. Transactions missing this information after April 12, 2024, will be declined by Visa.

We currently support the PoP for OCTs and are working on supporting this for AFTs. We will update you with further information at the beginning of next year.
