Enabling raw response and partner advice codes

Our API responses and webhooks now include raw response and partner advice codes by default. You’ll start seeing this expanded set of responses alongside your existing API response codes.

Want to learn more about how to use these codes in your payment processing with Checkout.com? Read on for a detailed explanation of what these codes mean, and the potential advantages of using them.

Raw response codes
Our API response codes are standardized across schemes for ease of integration and transaction analysis. Raw response codes are the non-standarized versions of those codes that we receive directly from the card schemes (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, etc.)

The benefit for you of receiving these codes is that you have more transparency of the raw response from the schemes, giving you more granularity and transparency in the responses you receive from us.

Partner Merchant Advice Codes

Mastercard uses Merchant Advice Codes (MACs) to provide additional information about a transaction. For example, a MAC will inform you of the card type used for the transaction, and if the transaction was declined, whether the payment can be retried, and if so, how long you should wait before doing so.

This is particularly useful when building your retry strategy, as you’ll receive clear, actionable advice from Mastercard on the best time to retry your payment.
