LONDON, UK — October 20 — Checkout.com, a leading global payments company, today announced its expansion into in-person payments, in response to significant demand from enterprise merchants seeking the performance and resilience of its online acquiring platform in stores.
Mollie, the European payments platform serving more than 350,000 businesses, is working with Checkout.com on its in-person payments offering, leveraging its expertise, terminal knowledge and hardware with Checkout.com's acquiring platform.
Checkout.com has taken a software-led, device-agnostic approach to in-person payments. This means the solution is not tied to a single terminal or hardware provider. The modularity of Checkout.com's platform enables merchants to connect to terminals they already use or choose hardware that fits their operations, giving them greater flexibility.
Through the long-term partnership, Mollie combines Checkout.com's acquiring platform with its local expertise, software and merchant relationships, to serve businesses selling both online and in person. Mollie retains control of its customer experience and hardware strategy, with Checkout.com’s solution running directly on Mollie's offering.
Checkout.com’s in-person payments solution lets merchants process in-person and online transactions through one acquiring relationship. Both channels use the same Unified Payments API, platform, contract and settlement infrastructure, while a shared dashboard gives payment teams a common view and makes reconciliation simpler.
"This expansion follows our earlier announcement of sustained profitability and growing margins, giving us the capacity to invest in new technologies and segments. Our merchants know Checkout.com for our speed, reliability and pace of innovation, and they asked us to bring that to in-person payments. Our job is to go where they need us most," said Antoine Nougué, Chief Revenue Officer at Checkout.com.
“In-person payments is one of the fastest-growing areas of our business, driven by hundreds of thousands of European merchants looking to unify their physical and digital sales,” said Rogier Schoute, CPO of Mollie. “Our obsession has always been delivering the simplest, highest-performing product for our customers. When it comes to enterprise-grade processing and infrastructure, we deliberately partner with industry leaders like Checkout.com. Combining our proprietary hardware, point-of-sale software, and rapid in-person growth with Checkout.com’s enterprise infrastructure ensures our merchants get the best of both worlds: complete flexibility on the shop floor, backed by world-class reliability.”
Checkout.com will process $480 billion in global ecommerce payments in 2026. Its multi-region infrastructure and direct scheme connectivity reflect years of investment in a single platform built for scale and resilience with sub-500ms latency. Over the past 12 months, the company has launched more than 150 merchant-facing features, supported by 500 code releases a day.
In-person payments will launch first in the UK and EEA, followed by the US. More schemes, markets and capabilities will be added next year.
