# Format the amount value When you specify an `amount` in an API request, format the value based on the specified `currency` to ensure Checkout.com processes the correct amount. For example, when you [request a payment](https://api-reference.checkout.com/tag/Payments/#operation/requestAPaymentOrPayout) or [request an authentication session](https://api-reference.checkout.com/tag/Standalone/#operation/createSession). Depending on the currency, you may need to provide: - [The full amount](#The_full_amount) - [The amount divided by 1000](#The_amount_divided_by_1000) - [The amount divided by 100](#The_amount_divided_by_100) Additionally, the `amount` value must: - Be greater than zero - Not contain decimals - Not contain more than nine digits --- ## The full amount For the following currencies, the `amount` you specify is the final amount, without any additional calculations. For example, the following payment request with `amount` set to `100` is for 100 Japanese Yen: ### Request example ```json { "source": { "type": "card", "number": "4242424242424242", "expiry_month": 12, "expiry_year": 2030 }, "amount": 100, "currency": "JPY" } ``` - `BIF` Burundian Franc - `DJF` Djiboutian Franc - `GNF` Guinean Franc - `ISK` Icelandic Krona - `JPY` Japanese Yen - `KMF` Comoran Franc - `KRW` South Korean Won - `PYG` Paraguayan Guarani - `RWF` Rwandan Franc - `UGX` Ugandan Shilling - `VUV` Vanuatu Vatu - `VND` Vietnamese Dong - `XAF` Central African Franc - `XOF` West African CFA franc - `XPF` Comptoirs Français du Pacifique --- ## The amount divided by 1000 For the following currencies, the `amount` you specify is divided by 1000 to determine the final amount.
