# Identities codes

[Identities](https://www.checkout.com/docs/business-operations/manage-identities.md) checks can have the following statuses, attempt statuses, response codes, and risk codes.

> However, we recommend basing your business logic on the status, and then using response codes as additional information.

## Check statuses

Checks can have the following statuses in API responses and webhooks:

| Status | Description | Recommended action |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `approved` | The check was successful and the applicant is approved.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- AML Screening – The risk score is `LOW`, `MEDIUM`, or `HIGH`, and no screening alerts were raised.<br>- Face Authentication<br>- ID Document Verification<br><br>Response code – `10000` | Accept the applicant's request. |
| `capture_in_progress` | The applicant is capturing their ID document and/or face.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- Face Authentication | Wait for the next status. |
| `checks_in_progress` | Checkout.com is processing the check.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- AML Screening<br>- Face Authentication<br>- ID Document Verification | Wait for the next status. |
| `created` | You successfully created the check.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- AML Screening<br>- Face Authentication<br>- ID Document Verification | Create an attempt. |
| `declined` | The check was not successful and the applicant is declined.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- AML Screening – The risk score is `PROHIBITED`.<br>- Face Authentication<br>- ID Document Verification<br><br>Response codes:<br><br>- Document issue – `62101–62104`, `62201`, `62202`<br>- Identity fraud – `62301–62307`, `62311`, `62331–62333`, `62399`<br>- Suspicious behavior – `62401 – 62405` | Refuse the applicant's request, or create a new check. |
| `inconclusive` | Checkout.com could not complete the check and you can no longer retry.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- AML Screening<br>- Face Authentication<br>- ID Document Verification<br><br>Response code – `64001` | No action is available. |
| `pending` | You successfully created an attempt and the attempt URL is available.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- Face Authentication<br><br>Response code – `64001` | Redirect the applicant to the attempt. |
| `quality_checks_in_progress` | For ID Document Verification, Checkout.com is checking the document image quality. | Wait for the next status. |
| `refused` | The applicant refused to start the attempt.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- Face Authentication<br><br>Response code – `63001` | Suggest an alternative to the applicant. |
| `retry_required` | Checkout.com could not complete the check. <br>The applicant needs to retry.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- Face Authentication<br>- ID Document Verification<br><br>Response codes:<br><br>- User engagement issue – `61101`, `61111–61113`, `61121`<br>- Technical issue – `61201–61205`<br>- Document capture issue – `61301–61303`, `61310–61315`<br>- Face capture issue – `61401`, `61402`, `61410–61414`<br>- Internal error – `61901`, `61911` | Create a new attempt. |
| `review_required` | For AML Screening, the risk score is `LOW`, `MEDIUM`, or `HIGH`, but screening alerts were raised and a case has been created. | Investigate the case. |
| `screening_in_progress` | For AML Screening, Checkout.com is screening databases and generating the risk score. | Wait for the next status. |

## Attempt statuses

Each attempt can have the following statuses in API responses and webhooks:

| Status | Description |

| `capture_aborted` | The applicant abandoned the attempt without capturing their ID document and/or face.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- Face Authentication |
| `capture_in_progress` | The applicant is capturing their ID document and/or face.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- Face Authentication |
| `capture_refused` | The applicant explicitly refused to perform the capture.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- Face Authentication |
| `checks_inconclusive` | Checkout.com could not complete the check and you can no longer retry.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- Face Authentication<br>- ID Document Verification |
| `checks_in_progress` | Checkout.com is processing the check.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- Face Authentication<br>- ID Document Verification |
| `completed` | The applicant successfully completed the attempt.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- Face Authentication<br>- ID Document Verification |
| `expired` | The attempt URL expired.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- Face Authentication |
| `pending_redirection` | The attempt is created, but the applicant has not yet been redirected.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- Face Authentication |
| `quality_checks_in_progress` | For ID Document Verification, Checkout.com is checking for authenticity. |
| `quality_checks_aborted` | For ID Document Verification, the document images are insufficient quality to perform the verification, and the attempt is closed. |
| `terminated` | The attempt is closed because you created a new attempt.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- Face Authentication<br>- ID Document Verification |

## Response codes

The following response codes provide more information about a check's result:

### approved status

### retry_required status

| `61112` | `applicant_no_document` | For Identity Verification, the applicant selected a button to state they did not have their ID document with them. |
| `61113` | `camera_access_refused` | The applicant did not give access to their device camera when instructed.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- Face Authentication |
| `61121` | `applicant_drop` | The applicant abandoned the attempt before capturing their ID document and/or face and the attempt URL expired.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- Face Authentication |

| `61203` | `camera_not_found` | The applicant's device did not have a camera.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- Face Authentication |
| `61204` | `focus_lost` | The applicant switched tabs or applications during the attempt. |
| `61205` | `sms_not_received`<br><br>`Deprecated`<br><br> | The applicant did not receive the SMS. |
| **Document capture issue** |  |  |
| `61301` | `document_blurry` | The applicant's document video or image was too blurry. <br><br>This is generally due to too much movement. <br><br>If this error persists, camera quality may also be an issue.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- ID Document Verification |
| `61302` | `document_lighting_issue` | The applicant performed the document capture in poor light.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- ID Document Verification |
| `61303` | `document_not_in_color` | For ID Document Verification, the applicant did not capture their ID document in color. |
| `61310` | `document_front_not_captured` | The applicant did not capture the front of the document.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- ID Document Verification |
| `61311` | `document_back_not_captured` | The applicant did not capture the back of the document.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- ID Document Verification |
| `61312` | `document_partially_hidden` | Part of the document was hidden in the capture.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- ID Document Verification |
| `61313` | `document_not_tilted` | For Identity Verification, the applicant did not move the document dynamically. |
| `61315` | `document_barcode_unreadable`<br><br>`Deprecated`<br><br> | The document's barcode was not readable. |

| `62304` | `face_mismatch` | For Identity Verification, the applicant's face in the face video did not match the document portrait. |
| `62305` | `face_not_live` | The applicant presented a physical or digital photo or video of another person's face.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- Face Authentication |
| `62306` | `face_alteration` | The applicant altered their appearance.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- Face Authentication |
| `62307` | `asset_digital_alteration` | The document and/or face videos are digitally altered.<br><br>Applies to:<br><br>- Identity Verification<br>- Face Authentication<br>- ID Document Verification |
| `62311` | `face_face_mismatch` | For Face Authentication, the face video does not match any previous face authentication for this applicant. |
| `62399` | `generic_fraud` | For certified Identity Verification, the verification is fraudulent. |

### refused status

The following labels flag risks Checkout.com identified during check processing. These risks were not significant enough to change the result.
