# CVV response codes

You can receive the following card verification value (CVV) response codes when you carry out a CVV check or [verify a card](https://www.checkout.com/docs/payments/authenticate-payments/card-verification.md):

| CVV code | Description |
| --- | --- |
| `D` | The CVV did not match. |
| `N` | The CVV should be on the card, but you indicated that it is not present. |
| `P` | The CVV check was not performed. |
| `U` | The issuer does not support CVVs. |
| `X` | The CVV information is not available. |
| `Y` | The CVV matched. |
